After returning from a night combat shift, Serhii’s life changed forever.

A serious road accident left him with a severe traumatic brain injury. Ahead lay a coma, extremely complex surgeries, long treatment and a fight for literally every day of life.

The doctors did not give him much of a chance.
But Serhii kept fighting!

He completed a rehabilitation course at the “Agape Ukraine” center as part of a veteran support project.

When his rehabilitation began, Serhii could walk only about 10 meters with a quad cane and needed constant assistance. He had problems with balance, memory, attention and speech, and very limited movement in his left arm.

Today the results speak for themselves:
☑ Serhii can walk independently with a single-point cane for up to 800 meters.
☑ He has learned to climb stairs.
☑ His endurance and walking speed have improved significantly.
☑ His understanding of speech has fully recovered.
☑ His speech has become clear and intelligible.
☑ His memory, attention and cognitive functions have improved.

For some, these are ordinary things. For Serhii, it is the chance to walk down the street on his own. For his family, it means hearing his familiar voice, seeing confident steps and believing in the future again.

There is still a lot of work ahead, but the most important thing has already happened: there is hope.

Serhii’s story is a reminder that rehabilitation works. Even after the most severe injuries, lost skills, movement and independence can be regained.

We thank all the specialists who help our veterans return to life every day 🇺🇦
